It was in a podiatry practice in Sauerlach near Munich that Heinz Weiland first discovered the idea for Pedilay® med in 2016. For decades, medical podiatrist Gabriele Brandt had been working at the practice on a special kind of foot bandage, experimenting with a range of cuts and materials. The idea was to protect the foot without compressing it, gently enveloping it in a dressing that was quick and easy to use. There was nothing like it on the market. As it later turned out, she was several years ahead of her time in terms of the product and material requirements.

"You're the guy!" That’s how Brandt started her pitch, rapidly convincing Weiland of the significance of her product concept. Weiland was familiar with the challenges faced by caregivers in their daily work from his days as a partner in a consortium of hospitals and care homes and the real (global) market demand was clear for him to see. Together with his son, Hannes Weiland, he founded Pedilay Care GmbH to turn the product concept into reality.

By 2019, the time had finally come. After numerous product iterations developed in partnership with our network of manufacturers and suppliers, we found the ideal combination of cut, fabric, and locking mechanism. The first Pedilay med product has been available on the German market since mid-2019. But we’re not stopping now: We have a number of new product ideas already in development. And they’re all focused on improving foot health for patients, and daily work routines for caregivers.
